Returning Brentford hero Sergi Canos has asked for time to regain match sharpness after his deadline day move from Norwich.

The Spaniard rejoined the Bees, having been on loan from Liverpool last season, after a difficult six months at Carrow Road.

The 20-year-old made nine appearances for the Norfolk club but only three of them were in the league with the rest coming in the EFL Cup, EFL Trophy and FA Cup.

And Canos believes that he needs time to get up to speed with the rigours of the Championship again.

He said: “I need game time. It's not easy to start playing again after six months out and training is not enough.

“I need to get back to work, work as hard as I can and be ready if the gaffer needs me or not.”

Canos has no regrets about joining Norwich but admitted he felt hard done by to have such limited game time.

He added: “I don't regret anything. We thought it was the best decision to make.

“I was looking for other options but Brentford said it was too much money but they could make the transfer in this window and it is amazing to be back.

“I was a very frustrated with the whole situation with not playing with the first team and not training with the first team.

“I know I didn't do amazing in the Championship but I was playing for Brentford and scoring goals. That's gone now and I'm back and I can do everything right.”

Brentford face trips to Preston and Reading in the coming days and Canos has fond memories of playing against both sides.

His introduction against the Lilywhites turned the game around for the Bees in September 2015 and he scored Brentford's goal of the season at the Madejski Stadium.

“Preston is going to be a tough game but I think the team is ready. We're all ready to fight and make the fans cherish,” he explained.

“I've got fond memories (of that goal at the Madejski Stadium). Hopefully I can do that in the future many many times.”
