Hayes & Yeading chairman Tony O’Driscoll insists the appeal against relegation pales by comparison to coming home.

Moving to the revamped Beaconsfield Road ground at the start of season 2015-16 will negate worries over what division United are in as far as he’s concerned.

Hayes & Yeading were given a relegation reprieve yesterday after Hereford United were expelled from the Conference Premier.

Next season, United will play at Maidenhead United and that is considered a better bet than the arduous trip to ‘home’ games at Woking over the last two seasons, says O'Driscoll.

“If I was a Hayes supporter I would be reluctant to go to Woking, even on Sundays,” O’Driscoll said. “Going around the M25 then was the same as the rush hour.

“Our supporters reckon it’s two train stops from Hayes to Maidenhead and the ground is next to the station.

“I honestly don’t think the move to Maidenhead will affect us that much; the travel is about the same. The priority is the ground so we can get back here; that’s the most important thing.”

Progress at Beaconsfield Road ticks over, but O’Driscoll believes if they need to stop because cash runs out, stop they will, and wait until there is a bit more in the pot.

“It would be lovely to have 50 builders, and maybe we could be back by Christmas,” he said.

“But we can’t afford it, and we’ve made an arrangement with Maidenhead we’ll be there all season. So it's the start of next season.

“If we run out of money for the ground, we’ll stop until we have some more.

“We have the budget for the day-to-day costs of running the club, wages and the like, and anything over and above and will be ploughed back into Beaconsfield Road.

“When we’re back, we hope we can build a better fan base because spectators will initially come to see what’s been done. “Hopefully they’ll see good football and stay.”
