IMPENDING retirement is the biggest motivating factor driving Uxbridge’s Danny Julienne.

The veteran midfielder is now approaching 100 appearances for the Reds under the management of Tony Choules.

It hasn’t been the most spectacular of starts in the league and ‘DJ’ saw another opportunity for a giant-killing cup run disappear when the men of Honeycroft bowed out of the FA Trophy at home to Heybridge Swifts.

For a man who acknowledges he will have to hang up his boots sooner rather than

later, it means achieving his other goal of the end of season play-offs is now all the more vital.

He said: “To be honest, for me personally the motivation is I have not got that many years left so I really want to have a good season as it might be now or never for me.”

Uxbridge had been on a run of four games without a Southern League Division One Central victory before thumping Ashford Town (Middx) 5-1 at home on Saturday.

The result is even more surprising given the Reds found themselves a goal behind six minutes into the second-half when Joe Lynch broke the deadlock.

It was an emphatic response from the Reds though as Matt Woods equalised with the first of three goals for the striker after being set up by debutant Phillip Oushor.

Woods soon had his second and the floodgates opened after Town were reduced to 10 men with 15 minutes to play. Will Wambeek made it 3-1 before another Woods strike and a late Craige Tomkins effort completed the rout.

Meanwhile the reserves went second in the Surburban League with a 3-0 win at leaders Walton & Hersham thanks to an Ola Kukoyi double and a strike from Nicke Kabamba.

Uxbridge entertain Chalfont St Peter in the league on Saturday while Northwood, without a game at the weekend, host Leighton Town.
