QPR manager Harry Redknapp reckons today’s 3-2 win at Barnsley will have done wonders for his side’s confidence ahead of next week’s play-off.

Two goals in the space of a minute on the stroke of half-time laid the foundations for the victory before Suk-Young Yun netted a glorious solo effort in the second period to complete a 3-2 win at Oakwell.

Rangers will play Uwe Rosler’s Wigan Athletic, who lost 4-3 in a thrilling game against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park this afternoon, in Friday’s semi-final first leg at the DW Stadium.

“We’ve got a good chance but we’re playing a good side in Wigan,” Redknapp said in the wake of today’s triumph in south Yorkshire.

“I’m sure Uwe Rosler will be thinking the same thing. It will be interesting.

“It was nice [to go into the play-offs with a win]. We changed the team around a bit today. It was good for the confidence. I gave a debut to Coll Donaldson so it was good to see him get a game. It was a good run-out.”

QPR and Wigan will play the winner of the other semi-final being contested by Derby County and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brighton snuck into the mix at the last-minute as Reading missed out, with Redknapp insisting there will be little to choose between the four sides.

“Brighton have got in there today as well with a last-minute goal, so they’ll play Derby and we’ll play Wigan,” Redknapp added.

“It’s all quite evenly-matched and there won’t be a lot between the teams.”
