SECOND-half strikes by Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas earned QPR a vital victory against Sunderland to boost their survival hopes.

The Black Cats took the lead against the run of play through Steven Fletcher, only for Loic Remy to respond before the break.

However, Townsend and Jenas were on target after the interval to secure back-to-back wins and set up a massive relegation six-pointer with Aston Villa next week.

QPR flew out of the traps, with Junior Hoilett flashing an early effort wide of the post.

But Rangers were stunned on 20 minutes as Sunderland broke the deadlock when Fletcher was on hand to turn in Adam Johnson's cross-shot.

However, Rangers equalised just before the half-hour mark.

Townsend's shot deflected off John O'Shea into the path of Remy, and he calmly slotted the ball past Simon Mignolet for his third goal for the club since his January move from Marseille.

Rangers continued to dominate. Remy saw a header saved by Mignolet, while the Frenchman blazed over moments later after being teed-up by Bobby Zamora.

Stephane Mbia had a long-range effort gathered by Mignolet at the second attempt as the hosts ended the half on top.

Sunderland improved slightly after the break, but they could do nothing about Townsend's stunning strike 20 minutes from time.

Fletcher's clearance dropped to the winger 25 yards out, and he unleashed an unstoppable dipping half-volley into the left-hand corner.

Substitute Jenas wrapped up the points in the last minute when he lashed home David Vaughan's headed clearance to earn the Hoops a vital win in their battle against the drop.
