Chris Ramsey strongly reiterated his desire to remain as QPR manager and start the rebuilding process after they were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday.

QPR bowed out in the worst possible way as Manchester City destroyed them 6-0 at the Etihad - courtesy of a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero and strikes from Aleksandar Kolarov, James Milner and David Silva.

Despite watching his side's worst defeat since October 2011, when asked on Sky Sports 1 if he wanted to stay at Loftus Road, Ramsey replied: "Yes. I really do. It's a club that I've taken to my heart and I really want to be here."

Aguero, who also scored the winner as City dramatically beat Rangers 3-2 to clinch the title in stoppage-time three years ago, kicked off the rout after just four minutes before going on to complete his fifth hat-trick in City colours.

QPR's backline just had no answer to City's precision and creativity in the final third, with the west London side chasing shadows for long periods.

"Well, obviously you're playing against a top quality team that can do that to other top teams. Obviously at this moment we're not a top team," Ramsey added.

"We came here with a lot of hope, we shot ourselves in the foot and we gave away three set pieces which they scored from and I think the anxiety of the occasion got to a few people and we steered away from the plans that we'd put in place.

"On the day we didn't really turn up and they're a very good team. Man for man throughout the pitch today the boys will have been very disappointed with the way they've performed. We really feel sorry for the family of fans that came here today that we've put out that level of performance."

It was a chastening way to have relegation confirmed, with QPR now propping up the table an unassailable nine points off safety with just two games left.

They will now join Burnley, whose relegation was confirmed on Saturday, in the Sky Bet Championship next season and Ramsey hinted that plans are already afoot for what will happen next.

"Everybody is very disappointed we've lost our status in the Premier League but knew coming here today it was going to be very, very difficult and we would have obviously rather performed better than that... the club's in a rebuilding phase now and it would have been anyway regardless of what had happened to us today," he said.
