Queens Park Rangers came away with a 2-1 win over Barnsley at Loftus Road on Tuesday evening.

It was a great start after four minutes for Rangers as a cross by Pawel Wszolek from the right was coverted into the far corner by Idrissa Sylla from close range.

Barnsley responded well, with Josh Scowen going extremely close shooting inches over on the volley from 20 yards, before Alex Mowatt fired just past the upright moments later.

Barnsley had goalkeeper Adam Davies to thank with a stunning save to his left to stop Yeni Ngbakoto's first-time shot from the edge of the box.

Ian Holloway will be delighted with another three points

And Ian Holloway's side were denied by the crossbar when the lively Luke Freeman's cross found the incoming James Perch, but the right-back's header crashed back off the woodwork.

It was far from a dull contest in west London, and Barnsley were certainly not out of it, with Marley Watkins' header going just wide.

Watkins then wasted a big chance, shooting tamely from 12 yards, before he got to a cross in front his marker and had a shot cleared off the line superbly by the back-tracking Jake Bidwell.

Rangers suffered an early blow in the second half when Perch went off injured.

But Holloway's men looked comfortable and pinned the visitors back for the opening 15 minutes.

Pawel Wszolek forced the second goal for Rangers

And they managed to double their lead midway through the second period when Wszolek motored down the right and delivered a fast, low ball in and it came off Tykes defender Angus MacDonald and in, under pressure from Sylla.

However, Barnsley gave themselves a lifeline with 11 minutes to go when substitute Tom Bradshaw was played in, and he rounded the onrushing Smithies to grab a goal back.

Five minutes were added on at the end to set up a tense ending for Rangers, but they managed to withstand late Barnsley pressure and hold on for all three points.
