QPR’s James Perch plans to give his best mate at Hull City a bit of an earful over the next couple of days.

The Rangers right-back is pals with Tigers defender Ryan Taylor from their time together at Newcastle, and Perch is going to say his friend doesn’t know what he’s missing at Rangers ahead of their clash at the KC Stadium on Saturday.

The new Rs defender reckons the only thing the team is missing at the moment is a more resilient defence - and that includes him.

Perch pal: Ryan Taylor

QPR trailed twice to goals by Blackburn last night. Hits that left head coach Chris Ramsey ‘gobsmacked’ and Perch is promising to do better - even though Rs clawed back the defecit and rescued a point in a 2-2 draw.

“We score goals, and if we cut the goals that are going in, it’s as simple as that,” the defender added. “There’s more to come to from me. I’ve done all right in some games and could have done better in others.

Goal machine: Austin gets past Danny Guthrie

“Consistency is massive in the Championship, that, and a striker who gets you 25 goals a season - and we have Chas (Charlie Austin).”

Perch is a summer signing from Wigan where he endured a roller-coaster he reckons made him a better player.

He said: “The first season we got to the semi-final of the FA Cup and the play-off semi here against QPR.

“The second season we got relegated so it was a bit of a mixed time. When you’re down there you’re more fighting to get a win.

“It’s a battling mentality, and I hope that’s not the case for the next three seasons with QPR. But it does make you a stronger person.”

A man of four clubs, and who is 30 in 11 days time, Perch has never played at Hull, but hopes his first visit set up by a mobile phone mauling makes it a winning one.

Perch added: “I’ve never been there. They’ve always been up and me down, or vice versa, and because I speak to Ryan most days I’ll be giving him a ring for a bit of banter.”

Remember last season's visit by QPR to Hull, and the part played by a certain Joey Barton?

Here's a reminder.
