The pivotal moment in QPR’s 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday came just before half time when Clint Hill made a game-saving tackle on Modou Sougou who fell awkwardly and dislocated a shoulder.

It took six minutes for the former Marseille winger to be stretchered off, while 1,700 Owls fans bayed for a Hill red card - not least because the defender was last man between Sougou and goal.

However, Rs keeper Rob Green got a clear sight of the incident, as did referee Andy Haines, who neither carded Hill, nor gave a foul.

Injury: Modou Sougou (C)

Green reckoned it was a perfectly good challenge as Hill made amends for a gaffe when he lost the ball.

The keeper explained: “The ball went sideways after Hilly’s challenge. That showed the tackle was good.

“As he fell he kicked Clint on the arm, and went down awkwardly, and sadly dislocated a shoulder - but it was nothing Clint did.”

The incident was described as ‘controversial’ in a clutch of media reports, but even Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal played down the moment.

Blameless: Robert Green

He said: “Modou was playing very well and went to try and close down the defender and disturb their defence.

“I hope it’s not too serious and he will recover quickly. He is a good professional and a very good person but these things sometimes happen in football."
