Garry Monk is the QPR coach’s choice as manager of the season.

Chris Ramsey not only envies the Welsh club’s eighth place in the Premier League, he also sees in Monk a manager who is underrated while taking one of the lesser lights to a lofty berth.

Ever the coach, Ramsey admires Monk’s recruitment that includes former Hoop Wayne Routlege.

The Rangers man said: “Garry Monk is my choice for what he’s done - and the way he’s done it quietly.

“He’s competed very efficiently in a very tough league, and played a style of football that is not unique but brave, and he has the players who can execute it. I like the way he’s conducted himself.”

In a campaign where highs were scarce and lows abundant, the man appointed full-time at the beginning of the week reckoned a personal milestone was the first away win of the season at Sunderland in February where Rs triumped 2-0 (see gallery).

He added: “That set the tone for us the energy for players expended during the game, even if we didn’t achieve our ultimate aim of staying in the division.”
