Charlie Austin wants a 100 per cent pay rise to sign a new deal for QPR - and even then the talismanic striker will demand a buyout clause should Rangers fail to get promotion.

Chances are the forward’s shock non-move in the transfer window will see him sit on his hands until next summer when he can walk away for free.

Austin is on around £20,000-a-week, and wants much the same deal as former Premier League stars Leroy Fer and Rob Green nudging north of £40k-a-week before rejoining the negotiating table abandoned in the summer when a host of clubs came in but failed to meet Rs £15m asking price.

Chris Ramsey scoffed at the idea Rangers lost a hefty fee as a result of sticking to their guns.

In fact, the head coach reckons the club stand to make £100m from a top flight return with their hit man alongside Matt Phillips and Green, also coveted by a host of clubs failing to put their money where their mouth was.

“You could lose out on not selling Charlie, but on the other hand you could gain more by him staying and making the club successful,” Ramsey added.

“Either way, as long as the player does what we know he’s capable of, and I’m sure he will, everyone’s happy.”
