QPR’s Alejandro Faurlin says he must repay the club’s confidence in him before he deems himself worthy of a new contract at Loftus Road.

Faurlin is the R’s longest serving player, having joined in 2009. But three consecutive cruciate ligament injuries threatened not only to curtail his time in west London - but end his career

It's also limited the Argentine to just 32 league appearances since the start of 2013.

The midfielder was coy about his chances of extending his seven-year stay, admitting that he needs to finish the season strongly first.

He explained, “I cannot get ahead of things; it’s just week-by-week. I started slow, but lately I’ve been playing a lot and I’ve been fit for most of the games, which is the main thing.

“I’ve already played 20 games this season so this is going well. I am where I wanted to be, playing football showing that I’m all right; I enjoy it.

“I need to get a certain amount of games and the club have the option [to extend]. The club has been great with me and I haven't played really, so I want to prove that I can repay some of that confidence. The rest will take care of itself”.

Faurlin went on to praise the methods of new boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, saying the squad is now “a lot more tough and organised” with the Dutchman in charge.

“It’s been great. He’s young and just starting as a manager and he’s looked really good. He’s very demanding, very professional; we are starting to click and understand what he really wants.

“He’s played a lot of football at the highest level in different leagues, so he has a lot of experience in that aspect as well. I think he’s going to be a very good manager”.

Faurlin and co hope to bounce back from a poor home defeat to Fulham last weekend, when they travel to strugglers Bolton on Saturday.

The first game between the two at Loftus Road in October saw Rs edge it in a seven-goal thriller with a last minute goal from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.
