QPR fans won't want to read this - but Matt Phillips has shuffled off the 'anxiety' he showed playing for Hoops.

The winger made the £4 million switch to West Brom in the summer at the second attempt, and after a mediocre time with Rs - he has come good at The Hawthorns, says Tony Pulis.

“He loves the football club, the players in the dressing room, and that almost evaporates all the anxiety that Matty has maybe had in the past,” he told the Birmingham Evening Mail.

“He’s a very talented boy, he’s got great balance and can use both feet.

“I think it’s just that he feels he might have found a home where everything is good for him.”

Phillips has featured in 20 Premier League games for the Baggies this season, scoring four times.

WBA scorer: Matt Phillips

But the quiet self-conscious Phillips often had the look of a haunted man as he walked past the media area at Loftus Road, and on his day, was very, very good - on others, he was all but anonymous.

He got a bad ankle injury at Rangers in 2014. But last season made 45 appearances in all competitions - but still only fetched 14 goals since he joined Hoops from Blackpool in August 2013.

He seems a man reborn in the midlands, so the question remains was it him or Hoops when he tended to flit in and out at QPR?
