QPR will wear a commemorative kit against Cardiff on March 4 to remember fifty years since they shocked the football world to win the League Cup in 1967.

The kit, which is revealed for the first time today on the day of the 2016/17 EFL Cup Final, will be worn for the one and only time when the R's play host to Cardiff City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday 4th March.

The fixture marks 50 years to the day that third division QPR remarkably upset the odds to come from 2-0 down to beat top-flight West Bromwich Albion, in doing so becoming the first winners of the famous trophy at Wembley Stadium.

The QPR kits

Honouring the all-white strip of 1967, the kit also gives a nod to the iconic R's Hoops. Included within the thick Hoops are the names of the players, manager and chairman from QPR’s class of ‘67, as well as the date and score of the final itself.

Mark Lazarus, the scorer of QPR’s winning goal in the 1967 Final, believes the commemorative kit is a perfect way to pay tribute 50 years on, commenting: “I think it’s a really lovely touch from the club.

“It’s a perfect way to embrace the past in the present day, bringing back some fabulous memories for those of us who are lucky enough to remember the final and also educating those supporters who weren’t around at the time.

“The fact that 50 per-cent of the profits go back into The Forever R’s Club is great too, and shows the club’s commitment to its former players, which has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years.”

Jamie Mackie

QPR attacker Jamie Mackie, who is pictured modelling the kit, added: “It looks good and it feels great.

“The lads love the style and what it stands for and we’ll be doing our utmost to get a victory for the boys of ‘67, as well as everyone else connected to the football club, when we wear it against Cardiff next weekend.”

To mark this memorable occasion, we’ve produced 500 limited edition adult commemorative shirts* – complete with a unique presentation box – which will go on sale on a first come, first served basis from the QPR Superstore on Saturday morning at 9.00am, priced £66.67.

Fifty per-cent of the profits from the sales of these shirts, which owing to the limited number produced will only be available in-store, will be donated to The Forever R’s Club, our newly-formed ex-players’ association, funding further activities and supporting our former players when required.

* Supporters should note that the commemorative shirts that will be on sale in the QPR Superstore will be outfield shirts only and will not include sponsors logos.
