Chris Ramsey has been told by the QPR manager before him how lucky he was not to get beaten 9-0 in his first game in charge.

As well as wishing the new man all the best as he rebuilds for the future, Harry Redknapp took the opportunity to regale Ramsey with his first game as Bournemouth boss.

That was back on December 18, 1982, when rookie Redknapp got caned nine without reply by lowly Lincoln City in front of 3,597 at Sincil Bank in the old Division Three.

"On the way home, it was like my world had come to an end," Redknapp admitted.

However, the man who gave way to Ramsey in February was to have a long distinguished career with the Cherries, Portsmouth and Tottenham before he joined Hoops in November 2012.

Ramsey also had a chat with Sir Alex Ferguson about the rigours of management, as the new man no doubt discovered when Hoops limped out of the Premier League on Sunday at Leicester (see gallery below).

Ramsey admitted an instant return as performed by Redknapp in 2013-14 might not be on the cards this time.

The coach said: “We’re not fearing the Championship, but we have to make sure whatever happens we don’t slide, because our ultimate aim is to be back in the Premier League.

“I would urge patience and we’re going through a transitional period."
