QPR will lay on special coaches today for travelling fans planning to see the friendly against AS Monaco at 4pm.

A new two-hour-trip is required after the two clubs discovered scorching conditions have rendered pitches bone dry - and therefore leaving players worryingly open to calf and other jarring injuries.

Originally scheduled for the Novarello Training Centre, Rangers will take on the French at Stadio E.Brunod Chatillon, around two hours drive from the original venue.

Pitch problems

The club has laid on a pair of coaches for Rs diehards who followed the club to Italy for their pre-season tour.

Hoops already saw the first fixture wiped out when Shakhtar Donetsk pulled out of Saturday’s friendly.

Rangers took it out on local side Verona Stars 10-0 instead with two different teams either side of half time.

But there is now a doubt about Friday’s last game against Saudi Arabia’s top team Al Ittihad, as director of football Les Ferdinand explained.

Doubt: Al-Ittihad celebrate a goal, but Rs friendly against them may not go ahead

“The condition of the pitches are of paramount importance to clubs in pre-season and following a standard check by ourselves and Monaco earlier today, we were both in agreement that we needed to find an alternative pitch,” he told the club’s website.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our supporters who have travelled to Italy to watch us, but I hope they understand and I’m sure they’d agree that the players’ well-being and safety is vital at this stage of pre-season.”
