QPR want versatile Newcastle player Ryan Taylor - but may be stymied by his £30,000-a-week current wage.

Versatile Taylor, 30, who can operate in both full back positions and in midfield, was told by phone that he was being released by Newcastle after his contract expired last month.

Taylor has seen his career blighted by a string of bad luck with injuries but there has been no shortage of interest with Rangers ooking to rebuild their squad.

Versatile: Ryan Taylor

Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Hull and Norwich are also monitoring developments with the free agent.

It was revealed last month that Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez were let go by the Magpies in the same phone call from former coach John Carver, who himself was sacked eight days later.

Rangers are determined to avoid the pitfalls of a free-spending past, and therefore might take a deep breath before pursuing Taylor, especially as they also have eyes on Tottenham defender Ryan Fredericks as exclusively revealed by Getwestlondon.
