QPR are now without a win in five as they were sunk by two Brighton wonder strikes in their 4-0 defeat at the Amex Stadium.

Anthony Knockaert opened the scoring for Brighton with a perfectly placed free-kick before Jiri Skalak picked out the top corner with a 30-yard half volley.

Connor Goldson added the third when he headed home from a corner before Knockaert claimed his second.

Brighton are chasing automatic promotion to the Premier League and looked like a team in high spirits as they posed a constant threat and thwarted anything Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side had to offer.

Brighton should have taken the lead in the 18th minute when James Wilson broke down the left and squared the ball only for Knockaert to put his header over the bar from six-yards-out.

In an end-to-end opening 20 minutes Conor Washington did well to turn on a sixpence on the box but skewed his effort wide.

Clint Hall had the away side’s first effort on target as he met a Massimo Luongo corner only to head straight into the arms of David Stockdale.

Stockdale had to be at full stretch to push Matt Phillips’ low effort away from goal when the midfielder dispossessed a Brighton defender and burst to the edge of the penalty area.

Alex Smithies made an excellent save in the 40th minute to deny Lewis Dunk after the centre-back met knockaerts corner with a powerful downwards header.

Knockaert opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with a left-footed free-kick which left Smithies helpless in between the QPR sticks after Nedum Onuoha committed a clumsy foul on the edge of the box.

Five minutes into the second half Skalak provided the second spectacular goal of the game as he latched onto Grant Hall’s headed clearance and struck a first-time half volley into the top corner from 30-yards-out.

The R’s introduced Sebastian Polter and Nasser El Khayati in the second half in an attempt to add some attacking impetus to the side but Brighton’s promotion chasing defence restricted the visitors to very little in their defensive third.

Albion defender Goldson netted the home side’s third when he rose above the Hoops defence and found the top corner with his header leaving Smithies helpless.

Knockaert continued an impressive performance as he grabbed his second with a left-footed strike from outside the area.
