Sebastian Polter believes he will only get better at QPR - not least because he and the Championship were made for each other.

Unlike certain foreigners fetching up on English shores used to fewer games and far fewer tackles - especially the bone-jarring type at Rotherham on a Tuesday night - the German reckons he thrives on them.

In fact, there is a perfect German word for it: passt zusammen.

The closest translation is hand-in-glove, and Polter insists he will be even fitter than the all-out 11k runner he is every game when the new season kicks off on August 6.

Signed from Mainz last summer when negotiations took time and robbed him of preseason work, he was hit-and-miss until the turn of the year before making an impact in the team.

This time around, he has already been running 10k charity races at home in Wilhelmshaven to maintain a high level of fitness.

“The Championship is physical, but I am physical,” he said.

“There is a word for it: passt zusammen. Maybe you can translate it?

“I will get fitter. Everybody can be fitter, and we don’t need to talk about when I first came here, because I think I will improve.

"The most important thing is to get a good pre-season and start well in the league.”
