Matt Smith had a brief but very successful loan spell with Bristol City in 2015.

The frontman, on loan from Fulham at the time, scored 13 goals in 20 appearances for the Robins, including an impressive four-goal haul against Gillingham in the Football League Trophy.

But he did not enjoy what was his second return to Ashton Gate with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

City were deserving winners, 2-1 against a poor QPR side on the day.

Smith said: "Obviously you want to turn in a good performance, but it wasn't something that was at the forefront of my mind that this was any more special than previous games.

"I've got good memories here, but this was a particularly sour one, so I'll have to put that to back of my mind and make some better ones in the last few games."

Smith barely had a sniff up front, with little to no service and support into him.

He added: "That's probably the most disappointing game since I've been at the club, I didn't get a kick.

"Personally I'm not happy at all, but I've been in this position before, you have your highs and lows in football. I feel like I hit the ground running when I got here, I feel like I've made an impact, so I'm not going to get too down."
