Conor Washington reckons he’s already reaping the benefits of playing alongside Matt Smith.

Both scored in QPR's 4-1 demolition of Birmingham on Saturday as well as living up to the plan envisaged for the pair by boss Ian Holloway.

The gaffer always reckoned former postman Washington would deliver with someone else to shoulder the burden - and the striker agrees.

“I think it will be a really good partnership if we’re allowed to play together,” he told www.qpr.co.uk

“And we were unlucky not to go two up in the first half.”

Head boy: Matt Smith scores

That was remedied very soon after the restart when Washington fired low and hard inside the near post - but even then it came because Ryan Manning saw an attempted overhead come back to him.

“I was screaming to Ryan, but he was trying to set it up for an overhead kick, and it fell for me,” Washington added.

The man signed from Peterborough in January 2015, then gave vent to his feelings with the type of gymnastic cartwheels team-mate Kazenga LuaLua would be proud to own.

“I’ve had that in my locker a while and it only comes out for special occasions,” said the scorer.

“Confidence builder? Yes, it’s massive, and hopefully we’ll take it into Tuesday against Wigan and get another three points.”
