Queens Park Rangers have stepped up their interest for Exeter City ace David Wheeler.

The wide man is believed to have been the subject of an approach from the Hoops in the last 24 hours.

Wheeler, who can also play up front, has been with the Grecians for the last four seasons, playing more than 150 games in all competitions, scoring 39 goals.

Last season, he scored 21 times, including a goal against Blackpool in the League Two play-off final.

Wheeler started out at Brighton and Hove Albion's academy, before going into non-league with East Sussex side Lewes, impressing at The Dripping Pan Stadium, before moving to Staines Town.

Having impressed further, notching 23 goals, he earned a move to the Football League to Paul Tisdale's side.

He has been one of the standout performers for Exeter in League One and Two in recent years, and could now get a chance to shine in the Championship.

QPR have missed out on Wolves striker Nouha Dicko, with the hitman set to join Hull City.
