Charlie Austin would have traded his goals for QPR to have another season of Premier League football.

The striker has scored 17 this season in the top flight and is behind only Diego Costa, Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero in the standings.

But it was not enough to keep Rangers in the top flight and their relegation was confirmed against Manchester City on May 10, much to Austin's disappointment.

He said: “I would trade some of my goals for us to be in the Premier League. That's the character I am.

“I'm a team player and would trade my goals for QPR to be in the Premier League. I feel like we fell short this season.”

Austin's performances meant he was named as both the players and supporters' player of the year and he was proud of those achievements.

He added: “It means a lot to me. To be appreciated by the fans is obviously good.

“To be awarded with that but the players as well to play with your team-mates and be voted for the second year on the trot I've won it. I'm really pleased.”
