Jake Bidwell believes his first season with QPR has been 'up and down', much like Rangers' form.

The 23-year-old full back moved to Loftus Road from west London rivals Brentford last summer.

Bidwell suffered the first major injury of his career when he dislocated his shoulder at Burton in September, which ruled him out for two months.

During that time, Rangers parted company with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and replaced him with Ian Holloway, leaving Bidwell to have to win his place back in the side.

“Like the team, it's been up and down. We'd have liked to have done a bit better. We're looking to finish the season strong and finish as high as we can in the table,” he said.

“It was difficult as I felt I was getting some form going and then I got the injury which set me back a bit.

“There was a change of manager so things changed as well with different formations. I am playing a slightly different position so I'm learning on the job.

“The more I've played, the more I've got to grips with it.”

Bidwell admitted he needed time to get up to speed under Holloway after his injury and the Rs boss is now seeing the full back's abilities.

He said: “I've been lucky (with injuries) up until then. You think back to people who have had more serious injuries than me. You think of people like Scotty Hogan.

“I had a couple of months out and then the new manager comes in. I was just getting fit but it takes you a bit of time to get up to speed so he didn't see the best of me straightaway.

“It's disappointing but it can't be helped. You've got to keep working hard and come through it.”
