Nedum Onuoha says Bobby Zamora's rich vein of form comes as no kind of surprise following his strike in Saturday's win against Nottingham Forest.

The 33-year-old – who has three goals in his last seven games - has struggled with injuries throughout his Rangers career, and has been restricted to just nine competitive starts this term.

But team-mate Onuoha says the former Fulham frontman's return to the side has given everyone at the club a welcome boost as they look to consolidate their position in the play-off mix.

“He’s not proven me wrong that’s for sure,” insisted Onuoha. “I remember when I first came here with him on deadline day two years ago – his signing was a massive boost for everyone connected with the club when we were fighting against relegation.

“He ended up being fantastic for the first six months and played a pivotal role in us staying up.

"He’s obviously had a few injuries since then but I still know how important he is to the team after the way he performed for us in our first season back in the Premier League.

“So it's been no surprise to me that's he's come back into the team after injury this time around and done so well.

"It’s been a big lift to everyone to have him back involved in the squad that’s for sure and he’s a great personality in the dressing room too."
