Tjaronn Chery says he’s mystified why he’s not been able to get as many QPR starts as he wanted - but he’s crystal clear Rs have an outside chance of the Championship play-offs.

The Dutch midfielder helped put one over a Birmingham side on Saturday when he fire cleft footed into the corner on 35 minutes to set Rangers on their way to a 2-0 win.

Chery has been hit-and-miss for the three Rangers managers in charge of the £2million striker so far, and this was his first start since January 1 when Hoops lost 2-1 at home to Hull.

Even so, hope springs eternal for both player and his club, up to 11th, even if they are 11 points shy of the last play-off place

Chery said: “I was happy with the start and the goal - it’s been a long time not playing for me. And if that’s so you have to show the manager what you got, and against Birmingham it was good.

“It’s a long time I don’t play, and I don’t know why, but I’ve got to do it next week as well.

“It was a really important win. Now we have to look at space number six. It will be really hard, but if we play like we did then it’s possible.”

Rangers played with Chery as a number 10 behind Sebestian Polter on Saturday as boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink rang the changes after a midweek 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
