Sandro insists he did the right thing to leave Tottenham and join QPR - despite ending up in the Championship doldrums.

The Brazilian international’s £6million transfer in summer 2014 heralded great things for both club and player - but not only did the 26-year-old pick up a knee injury early his Rangers career, he then fell foul of work permit law and missed the end of last season and the beginning of this.

But Sandro hinted his time at Tottenham was clearly up after he picked up first knee injury at White Hart Lane.

The winds of change under four different managers blew decidedly cold for a man used to the beach and sun.

Ambition: Sandro (L)

He said: “I wanted to play more, and in my time there at Spurs, there were lots of teams. When I got my injury I lost a bit of time there.

“I wanted something new and QPR was the right decision.”

For all that, the 26-year-old knows chances of further international honours are pretty much dead and buried unless Rs get back into the top flight.

But Sandro insists he never asked nor wanted a move in the summer when his work situation was up in the air.

“A move? I didn’t see it that way,” he said. “I have a contract here for one-and-a-half more years.

"My focus is here and hopefully the Premier League next year.

“If Brazil want me, they’re going to ask, but I agree it’s difficult for me in the Championship. This is not in my head.”

This was Sandro’s fifth Christmas in England, and he’s yet to get used to the flurry of games that demands three games in five days. He played 65 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Huddersfield on Monday before making way for Sebastian Polter.

“There are too many games here; it’s hard, but we are paid for it, yeah? There were of texts and calls to my wife Vanessa and family over Christmas, but fans love it and it makes them happy.”
