QPR are ready to give Alex McCarthy a second chance - and allow Rob Green to make the reverse journey to Crystal Palace.
Rangers are keen to avoid triggering a new contract for Green, who on reaching 30 games automatically gets a stay at Loftus Road. The 35-year-old is currently on 25 appearances.
McCarthy was allowed to leave Hoops at the end of last season ironically because Green’s form, even in a doomed Premier League campaign, saw him called up for England squad duty.
But even at Palace, McCarthy has found the going tough, and after an initial run of six has yet to feature again. His last appearance was in a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in September.
Green has also been linked with Liverpool and Bournemouth. But any departure for the man who enjoyed a promotion and suffered two demotions with Hoops since he joined in 2012 is dependent on finding his replacement.
Rookie Joe Lumley is the only realistic back up for Alex Smithies, in goal for the 3-0 away win at Rotherham on Saturday.
