Leroy Fer snubbed once Ronald Koeman once before - now the QPR midfielder is planning to put the Dutch boss’s nose out a second time.

Fer and co travel to the south coast to take on Koeman’s Southampton, with the Ranger determined to end his side’s bad away start.

Pointing the way: Ronald Koeman

Rs were roundly beaten 4-0 by both Tottenham and Manchester United, but Fer believes there’s at least a point to be had at St Mary’s on Saturday.

“I think every team is better at home,” said Fer, “but there is no reason why we can’t get a win at Southampton as well, if we show the same spirt as we did against Stoke.”

The 2-2 draw from a last-gasp wonder free-kick from Niko Kranjcar was due reward for twice surrendering the lead, but sticking to the task, unlike Fer in 2011 who quit Feyenoord four games into Koeman’s reign in Rotterdam.

“He asked me to stay,” explained Fer, “but I wanted to play in the Europa League with Twente (Enschede) and it was not about him.

“He’s a good coach, and he has a difficult task at Southampton after Pochettino, but he came at Feynoord when they weren’t so good, and three times he got them second place.

"Before him, it was 10th and seventh, and he’s worked at some good clubs like Benfica.”
