It’s one step at a time for Ben Gladwin after he completed a £1.5 million move from Swindon Town.

The second signing inside two hours from the League One beaten play-off finalists comes with the smart thinking he could be a big fish in a smaller pond, rather than flounder in the Premier League.

In the battle between two former Tottenham coaches, Chris Ramsey has got one over his old pal Tim Sherwood.

The Villa boss was understood to be in for both Gladwin and Massimo Luongo - also confirmed as a new recruit.

But the former non-league player reckons he can achieve more with Ramsey and Hoops in the immediate future.

“There was interest from the Premier League but for me, personally, I think this move is a little more realistic at this stage of my career,” Gladwin told the club’s official site.

“Playing is what it’s all about. Sitting on the bench is no way to improve your game.

“Chris Ramsey is a fantastic coach and I’m sure he’ll improve me on the training pitch. I spoke to him earlier this week and was hugely impressed by what he had to say and where he sees me fitting in.

“Everyone I’ve spoken to about QPR said it would be a good move for me. I can’t wait to get going here.”

Cock-a-hoop: Ben Gladwin scores for Swindon

Likewise Ramsey thinks he will be good for a player who turned out 41 times for Swindon last term, scoring 11.

He added: “Ben’s a fine addition for us and someone myself and Les have been monitoring for some time.

“I'm happy we've persuaded him to come here because there was a lot of interest from other clubs, some in the Premier League. He just wants to come in and play and he'll get that opportunity with us.

“I'm looking forward to coaching him and working with a player I believe can only keep improving.”
