No one can doubt Leroy Fer’s desire to play for QPR again.

The man left gutted when a proposed move to Sunderland in the transfer window broke down after he failed a medical has binned the disappointment and rolled up his sleeves in the Rangers gym.

Fer’s also used every opportunity to remind the management team just what a worker he is, as Chris Ramsey revealed.

Problem: Leroy Fer at Sunderland in February

The head coach added: “We set him targets and he comes in and reminds us he’s met those targets."

Because Rangers have a full-to-overflowing midfield, Ramsey’s determined his player only returns 100 per cent fit, although he could win a place on the bench against Fulham on Friday.

The coach is also mindful Fer harbours hopes with Holland, and maybe a berth at Euros 2016, should Dutch form dramatically improve.

“Leroy wants to play as high as he can,” Ramsey said. “He was in the Dutch squad at the end of the season, and wants to get back.

“We do have an array of players and it means we don’t have to rush anyone injured back. Last year we had to play Bobby (Zamora) when he was 75%, and he would end up 40%.

“We need to make sure he comes back for the long term, especially when you bear in mind an international, has maybe only four major tournaments available to him in career: two Euros and two World Cups, and that’s that.”

He played an hour against Crewe at Rangers’ Harlington training ground, as did midfielder Sandro, who scored the opening goal in a 3-1 win for the home side.
