Karl Henry is desperate to beat the drop and avoid the doom and gloom of another relegation.

The QPR midfielder suffered the end-of-season heartbreak in successive years with Wolves that left his hometown club languishing in League One.

Henry is embroiled in another survival scrap this campaign and says he's hell-bent on helping Harry Redknapp's side stay up to prolong his career in the top-flight.

Extra motivation: Henry in action for Wolves

He said: "Relegation was a horrible, horrible thing and unfortunately the reality of being promoted is there’s a good chance you’re going to be in a battle to survive.

“Going down with Wolves was disgusting, everyone was hurting. Being so close to it was horrible and there was a lot of pressure on my shoulders.

“It’s not what you sign up for or want to be involved in. It’s non-stop pressure and the fear factor of going down is huge.

Enforcer: Henry wins a tussle with Liverpool's Jordan Henderson

“For myself, and a few of the older players, it may be the last opportunity to play in the Premier League. I want to stay here for the rest of my career and play at the highest level I can.

“That’s made more likely if we stay up and I play well. Everyone’s got their own agendas and want to do well for themselves, their family and the club, and avoiding relegation ticks all those boxes.”

Back-to-back home wins have given QPR belief following a tough start to the season that saw them suffer heavy defeats on the road at Spurs and Manchester United.

Midfield battle: Manchester United's Ander Herrera in action with Henry

The Hoops have lost seven-successive away games but will be looking to end their travel sickness at Everton tonight.

Henry added: “Sometimes it takes a few hidings to give you a kick up the backside. The realisation that you’re in a relegation battle is huge and you either sink or swim.

“We’ve got a group of players who have stepped up to the mark and want to roll their sleeves up and help us get out of the trouble we are in.

“It’s been a shock to our system and hopefully we’ve turned the corner. It’s all about not being in there at the right time.”
