Harry Redknapp paid tribute to a player first brought to his attention when he was 12 by Sir Alex Ferguson as Rangers beat Birmingham for a first win in six.

The former Manchester United boss tipped off QPR’s manager about Ravel Morrison – and nine years later the West Ham loanee scored both goals to end a recent Rs drought.

Morrison lost his way at Old Trafford, and then at parent club West Ham, but Redknapp insists everybody has yet to see the best of the England U21 player.

He said: “What a player he is.

“I’ve followed his career from when he was a 12-year-old and what Sir Alex told me. For whatever reason he’s been let go, but we’re glad we’ve got him.

“He’s a real talent and he rode tackles and took his goals well. We wasted opportunities and they were always in the game – but this is a massive win for us.”

The 2-0 away triumph was made all the sweeter by defeats for Championship promotion rivals Derby and Nottingham Forest.

Redknapp added: “They were big results and vital games. There are no easy games in this division.”
