QPR have been told Patrick Bamford wants to join a Premier League club rather than Hoops.

Boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink tried the old pals act to persuade the Chelsea forward he would get more games in west London than cooling his heels as he did during an unsuccessful loan spell with Crystal Palace last month.

The Rs gaffer had in mind a pairing of Bamford with Conor Washington, signed from Peterborough this week for £2.5m as the obvious replacement for the departed Charlie Austin.

But the 22-year-old, on loan at Middlesbrough last season where he scored 19 goals, wants to stay in the top flight, with Norwich and Swansea reportedly keen to take him.

Hasselbaink knows Bamford having worked with him when the Dutchman was on the coaching staff at Nottingham Forest, who sold the player to Chelsea in 2012.
