Leroy Fer is finally getting to play where he wants.

The QPR attacker is part of a twin-set that sees either he or Junior Hoilett as men in behind backing up lone frontman Sebastian Polter, who scored against Wolves on Saturday.

Together with Matt Phillips, the plan under new boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is to bomb on when Rangers have the ball. It’s literally the way forward, says the Holland international, but it wasn’t always so – as Fer testified.

“We lost our way earlier in the season, and played a different system and it didn’t work. But now we’re playing high pressure and balls into the striker,” he said.

“He’s now trying to play me with Junior who can go outside and me inside and the other way round - it gives us a lot of freedom, and we can link up very well.”

Fer is the only high cost signing from the club’s return to the Premier League not linked with either move or already loaned as is the case with Steven Caulker at Liverpool.

But the man signed from Norwich in August 2013 for a reported £8 million insists his fellow countryman has given him a new lease of life.

“It’s been hard to not play in the competition I normally play, but when the gaffer came in he’s given me a lot of confidence."
