New Rs Hall of Famer Gareth Ainsworth has backed Ian Holloway to be a hit in his second spell as QPR boss.

Ainsworth, who was first brought to the club by Holloway 13 years ago, was inducted into the QPR list of legends during last Thursday's home defeat to Wolves.

And although what followed was a second defeat in three games under Holloway, Ainsworth is confident his former boss will turn things around.

He said: “Ian's a familiar face the fans can link with. He knows what it means to put a QPR shirt on, just like I do. He know what it takes and what kind of person you have to be.

Familiar face: Ian Holloway

“Ian brought me to the club, and the kind of culture we had then – if he can get back towards anything like that, he will be a great success.

“I think he's a great manager, and he's proved many of his critics wrong. He got to the Premier League twice and was fantastic. I'm pleased to see him back at Rangers.

“He's very emotional and open with what he says, but he's a very good football manager too, and you would run through a brick wall for him. I'm sure he will get the QPR players doing that for him.”

Ainsworth, now manager at Wycombe Wanderers, joined Bob Hazell and Simon Barker in the Hall of Fame on the night, and could not hide his pride.

He added: “Moments like this are brilliant for me and my family as they have been there from day one. That's who I want it for, I took my parents along.

“It was a great honour. I'm most known for my playing days there, and I'm proud of that because it's a fantastic club.”
