Gareth Ainsworth admits he's flattered to be linked with the QPR job and it's a job he would love one day – but perhaps not at the moment.

The former Rs favourite, who spent seven years as a player at Loftus Road, including two spells as caretaker-manager, has been thrown in amongst the names being tipped to succeed Chris Ramsey as manager.

Ainsworth has cut his full time managerial teeth with Wycombe Wanderers, where he finished his playing days, leading them to a great escape from Conference football on the final day of the 2013-14 season.

Next phase: Ainsworth as Wycombe's manager

This was followed by taking them to within the brink of promotion to League One last season – missing out on the final day of the season, and then losing the play-off final on penalties – and all on one of League Two's smallest budgets.

Ainsworth said: “It's brilliant to be linked as it means I'm doing a good job here, and it's flattering, but I'm working very closely with Wycombe chairman Andrew Howard and I have got a job to do with him here.

"If things take their natural course, we will cross that bridge when we come to it, but I'm very happy here.”
