Neil Warnock has revealed that QPR are close to appointing a new manager as he expects to remain in charge for their next two matches.

The 66-year-old has been acting as interim coach following the sacking of Chris Ramsey and has earmarked the Hoop’s fixtures with Middlesbrough and Leeds as his final two at the helm.

Warnock is no longer able to attend tonight’s clash with Boro at The Riverside Stadium, due to personal reasons, but he has backed the club to hire a manager befitting of QPR.

He said: “The club is moving forward managerial wise so I am treating the next two games as my last as they will probably appoint somebody in the not too distant future.

“QPR is a fabulous club and a good job so they will have been inundated with applications but at this level you are only looking for the best.”

Candidate: Burton Albion manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Warnock has enjoyed his spell as interim coach but always new that the appointment was on a short term basis, despite hiring Kevin Blackwell as his assistant.

The former Sheffield United boss has confirmed he will step aside once a new manager is selected so that the new boss doesn’t feel undermined.

He added: “I’ve enjoyed the training ground if I’m being honest.

“With somebody else coming in they might not want me around so I think it’s only fair to let that have a free run.”

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant Loftus-Road hotseat.
