QPR are ready to launch an audacious £8million bid for Christopher Samba if other quests for a centre back fall by the wayside.

The Blackburn colossus has moved up the pecking order of Neil Warnock as the manager realises original targets Sebastien Bassong and Nedum Onuoha are anything but done deals.

In what is likely to be a merry-go-round of January transfers, it is Onuoha’s situation that could trigger a move for Samba.

The Manchester City defender’s mother is suffering from cancer and he would prefer to stay close to her in the North-West. Blackburn are monitoring that situation and could be tempted to part with Samba if the money talks as loud as the player did behind closed doors last summer when he wanted away.

The Congolese defender signed a new five-year-deal at Ewood Park in January, but has since made it plain he favours a move, and has reportedly switched agents in a bid to get one.

Bassong made his 11th appearance of the season for Spurs against Stoke last weekend, and manager Harry Redknapp is unwilling to let him go until he gets a suitable replacement – the reason why an original QPR move for the player foundered on deadline day in August.
