QPR have made it plain they're not worried Rob Green will earn a new contract if he plays 30 games for the club this season.

Conspiracy theorists had it Rangers number one keeper was being held back from triggering the new deal if he makes five more appearances.

In fact, boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink revealed he is doing all his can to make sure the 35-year-old recovers from illness in time to make the match at Blackburn tonight.

In with a shout: Rob Green

He said: "We don’t know yet if Robert will make it. We will do all in our power for him to come back.

“He has been ill over the weekend, and it looks like it will be touch and go for him this evening."

Number two Alex Smithies has an elbow injury, and therefore youngster Joe Lumley stands by to make a second appearance in 72 hours after debuting in the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

However, hotshot Charlie Austin definitely misses out as Rangers go searching for their first win in six at Ewood Park dating back to 1999 and a 2-0 win.

“Charlie is training now but we won’t risk him because I have to make sure that when he comes back, he is there to stay, and he doesn’t go back onto the injured list," explained Hasselbaink.

“So we need to give him some extra time, but he is training and is progressing really well," he told the club's website.
