Nedum Onuoha is hoping to face a tough decision next season.
If all goes according to plan and the QPR defender remains in the form of his life, he wants both England and Nigeria to come knocking on his door.
The 27-year-old arrived in England when he was five and qualifies for both countries. But Onuoha blocked questions about which one he would choose if push came to shove as effectively as any Championship forward he tackled last season.
He agrees, however, a Premier League profile gives him a better chance of stepping up from his 20 appearances for England U21s.
“In an ideal situation, I’d like to be playing well in the Premier and having England and Nigeria both asking me to play for us at the same time,” he said.
It appears that reported approaches from the land of his birth in 2007 were wide of the mark. A someone connected with Nigeria broached the subject of Onuoha’s availability, but nothing came of it
“There was always talk of it, but I never called up officially,” he added.
“I’ve got used to no-one coming at all, but don’t know. It’s a tough decision. I was born in Nigeria, but I grew up here and it would be a nice problem to have.”
Onuoha admitted to a bigger fear when he first settled in Manchester with his parents back in 1990, and one that involved the drastic change in climates.
He said: “I can remember when I first went to school, I was wearing like three jumpers; and I thought: what have I let myself in for?”
