Grant Hall scored his first QPR goal to carve out a point against Reading - and Hoops player of the year in waiting immediately voiced his desire to rejoin old pal Harry Kane in the Premier League.

Both were part of Tottenham’s academy before parting ways.

Kane has gone on to become one of the top flight’s hottest properties. Hall admits he had to take a step backwards to the Championship.

From the way the season has gone for the central defender, that lofty wish has legs, especially for a player where most things went right in contrast to club fortunes.

“I need to keep improving, because I’m still learning, and I think at times I’m only going to learn the hard way,” a modest Hall said.

“The improvement to the physical side of my game has been the most pleasing thing for me, that and being consistent.

“I came in as a back-up player and have gone from strength to strength.”

Reflecting on what might have been had he stayed at Spurs, Hall believes he still has a chance to mix it with the best.

“I thought it was time to move on, that’s football,” he said.

“I see the likes of Harry Kane who I played with, and he’s become one of the best in the Premier League if not the world.

“My aim is to be playing back there with QPR in the Premier League. I speak to some of the Spurs boys now and again; they’re good lads.”

To do that, Hall insists he should be scoring more than a goal a season if he to keep improving.

He explained: “It was a weight off my shoulders to get that first goal. It’s only Perchy (James Perch) amongst the defenders who hasn’t scored yet.

“I need to add goals to my game; it’s only a one a season at the moment. I need to attack the ball more from set pieces and need to be scoring something like five a season.”
