Paul Konchesky didn't know he had legs until Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink pitched up at QPR.

In a week when the new Star Wars film is all the rage, it isn't just the Millennium Falcon thrust into warp speed and beyond.

The former Chelsea striker's high intensity sessions on the training pitch has had a few in Hoops wheezing .

As one of the elder statesmen at Loftus Road, Konchesky is more entitled than most to draw breath under the new regime.

While he claimed the limbs were holding up, there was even a hint the tough holiday schedule might come as a breather from such intensity that started with a 1-1 draw at Bristol City on Saturday.

Konchesky said: "It has maybe gone from not doing a lot to very intense, but that is not just for me that's for everybody.

"We have adapted so far and we will adapt. It is going to be a tough Christmas period, so hopefully the training won't be so bad.

Two together: Paul Konchesky is challenged by Elliot Bennett of Bristol City

"The gaffer gets his stuff across on the training ground the lads have taken to it and I think you can see that from both games we have played so far."

In his 18 years as a professional, the former Fulham left-back has absorbed demands from high profile managers including current England boss Roy Hodgson at The Cottage and later at Liverpool, Alan Curbishley, Alan Pardew and Nigel Pearson.

Therefore, you might think he would be hard to impress, but he admits Hasselbaink, a rookie in comparison, has already brought a creativity, honesty and authority to the festivity party that suggests he could end up in such exalted company.

"Jimmy has great ideas, he knows what he wants and if we can give him that he will be a successful manager, he added.

"Hopefully that will be with QPR and starts this season with him pushing us up the league."
