QPR are close to tying up a loan deal for Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge .

The 31-year-old has made just one appearance for the Premier League leaders this season – in the Carling Cup victory over Birmingham back in September – and is surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium.

Rangers boss Neil Warnock is desperate to bolster his backline, who has leaked 35 goals in just 20 games so far this season.

Armand Traore's departure to the Africa Cup of Nations will leave veteran Clint Hill as QPR's only recognised left-back.

And the Chronicle understands Warnock has lined up a move to bring former Fulham and Chelsea star Bridge back to west London for the rest of the season.

However, the deal isn't expected to be completed in time for Saturday's FA Cup third round clash at MK Dons.
