Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink had no hesitation in answering how the third round tie at Nottingham Forest went south.

"We lost it in the first half - that wasn't us," the frustrated boss rapped. "Me, I want to play with courage and on the front foot, and we did that in the second half. Now I want to play for 96 minutes."

Rangers man in charge was unrepentant he made eight changes from the starting side that lost to Hull 2-1 last week that included a debut for third-choice keeper Joe Lumley.

Debut: Joe Lumley

Hasselbaink said: "I wanted to give other people a chance and have a look at them. I'm happy I did.

"Alex Smithies has been injured all week with an elbow, and Rob Green was ill. That's why he couldn't come to the game today. I thought Joe did very well."

On the subject of Green, the gaffer tried to play a straight bat whether the veteran had a future at the club as news leaked of a contractual arrangement allowing the keeper a new contract if he makes 30 appearances - the tally currently stands at 25, but did hint the former England shot-stopper's days are numbered.

Number up? Rob Green

"I'm not going to talk about contractual situations because he was ill. He's got a contract for six more months and that's what it is," he added. "Eventually, we need to get a younger goalkeeper because he's 35 years old.

"We as a club are going in a different direction, but Rob Green has been and is still a great servant of the club."
