It was only Junior Hoilett's second goal of the season that earned QPR a draw at Bristol City - but his new boss insists there is a reason why the winger is back in form.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink underlined the crucial factor that makes the latest Canadian international tick - something Hoilett has been woefully short of for the last two seasons.

“I was very pleased with Junior Hoilett’s contribution," the Rs gaffer said. "He’s getting back to where he used to be. He’s a very-good player, a confidence player who needs somebody to believe in him."

Hoilett might just be working his way to a new contract at the end of the season, but Hoops are making painful progress to a play-off spot after their third draw in a row.

“In the first half, Bristol City put us under some pressure," Hasselbaink added. "However, although they had a lot of possession, they didn’t work our goalkeeper too much.

“In the second half, I thought we were the better team. We created chances and their ‘keeper made some good saves.

“We scored and we looked in control. But they had one moment towards the end and played it well.

“It’s a pity, but we can take a lot of plus points from the second half.”

He added: “I was very pleased with Junior Hoilett’s contribution. He’s getting back to where he used to be. He’s a very-good player, a confidence player who needs somebody to believe in him.

“We definitely do. We definitely like him. He’s one who can create and score goals. Today, he did ever so well.”
