MARK Hughes has left the door open for Federico Macheda to return to the QPR first-team fold.

The on-loan Manchester United striker has made just one start since the Welshman's arrival in W12, and has struggled to even make the bench in recent weeks.

Macheda, who was signed in January by Neil Warnock, vented his frustrations from being left out in the cold on Twitter after Saturday's draw with Everton.

Hughes has vowed to quiz the young Italian over the foul-mouthed tweet, but insists he could still play a part in QPR's survival bid.

When asked whether Macheda is still in his plans, the Rangers boss said: “Yes if he applies himself.

“Everybody needs to do things correctly and make sure they're up for selection, which he was on Saturday.

“Unfortunately he missed out because I felt other players were a better option.”
