Harry Redknapp scoffs at the idea of a Fair Play League as conceived by the game’s bosses.

The notion that Premier League sides will start on a level footing when it comes to spending is as remote as another 4-1 away win at Old Trafford like 22 years ago, although the manager would take your hand off if he was offered both.

The 67-year-old has been too long in the game to think spirit will override sheer spending power.

Summer signings: Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao

QPR have spent around £28m on summer signings according to the boss, but face a United team with £155m at their disposal on Sunday.

Redknapp reckons managers do not make a team, but the cash at their disposal.

He explained: “You should have a maximum £30m to spend, and bring kids on from the youth team.

“The seven teams at the top will be the same as it was last year, and the rest on a different planet. What’s a Fair Play League? The NFL in the USA tries to make a Fair Play League, but this is not that.

“You can take someone like Sean Dyche from Burnley and put him with a top seven club, and they’ll still be top seven. You take the manager from where he’s gone to and put at him at Burnley - and he’ll have done well to stay up.”
