QPR head coach Chris Ramsey believes Charlie Austin could be close to a recall against Brentford next Friday in the second west London derby of the season.

The stricken striker limped off against Fulham with a hamstring tug nearly a month ago, but has made a strong recovery to throw his name in the hat for the short trip to Griffin Park.

"He will be close for this next game, and we have to be careful with him. But if not this game, then the one after," Ramsey said.

Gaffers: Chris Ramsey (L) and Karl Robinson

However, the need for goals has been allayed after a tremendous 3-0 win over MK Dons.

Rangers relieved the pressure on a head coach who still got told he didn't know what he was doing by a large section of home fans when he substituted Leroy Fer for Massimo Luongo in the second half.

But maybe Ramsey has learned from the Arsene Wenger school of diplomacy.

He said: "I didn’t hear them cheering me off if I'm honest. But you have to make the call, and Leroy and (Fer) (second sub) Junior Hoilett got in there making action," the Rs coach said.

Robert Green

He did, however, see a marvellous save by keeper Rob Green at the feet of Simon Church in the second half when the score was only 0-0.

“First half, we were on top and Rob (Green) didn’t have save to make. But we didn’t take our chances.

"When you are playing a passing team like them, there is always the chance they will put together a phase and get behind you. Fortunately for us, Rob pulled off a unbelievable save.

There was also widespread jeering when Karl Henry went off to be replaced by Alejandro Faurlin. Henry clearly is not flavour of the month with Rs fans, but his boss leapt to his defence.

"I just look at the job that he does, and he is one of those players who do a lot of unseen work," Ramsey said.

"Those who look pretty on the ball and open up the pitch generally get the plaudits. but you need players like him who are prepared to run about and break the play up - that's his gift."

"Things give you stick when things don't work out. But today it did."
