Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Matty Phillips and Junior Hoilett did the honours in front of the QPR squad from 1975-76 - but there was a terrific match-winning save from Robert Green.

The heroes, who came a close second in the old First Division 40 years ago, would have been impressed by the brave stop at the feet of Simon Church.

And Stan Bowles was positively purring when the Rs legend watched the man known as JET take the ball down in the box, nutmeg a defender, and dink the ball past the keeper for 1-0.

Phillips's terrific left-foot drive from a marvellous crossfield ball from Daniel Tozser, and sub Hoilett's over-the-shoulder effort from close range released all the pressure valves building under head coach Chris Ramsey.

But the first half was pure frustration for home fans.

Their team spent most of the half in the opponents half, but there was no end product.

Early on, Tjaronn Chery had a low shot saved well from David Martin. There were blocked efforts from from Emmanuel-Thomas and Nedum Onuoha that flew off for corners.

Paul Konchesky then got past the last man on the left, and slid the ball past the keeper, but Kyle McFadzean cleared off the line.

The opposition? MK Dons barely made the Rangers half, except for a couple of dangerous crosses and Green's heroic save.

It's easy to see why they are where they are near the bottom.

However, there were a couple of sour notes

when Massimo Luongo made way for Leroy Fer, there was massive booing from home fans for the second match in a row.

‘You don’t know what you’re doing,’ rang out. and then a few minutes later fists flew in the upper deck of the away School End to herald crowd trouble for the first time in a long while at Loftus Road. Police and stewards dived in just as bravely as Green.
